Why do things happen the way they do? Why do some experiences seem to repeat themselves, while others are completely beyond our control?
In this course, we’ll explore the Buddhist understanding of karma – the law of cause and effect. Karma is not fate or punishment. Rather, it helps us understand how our actions of shape our future experiences.
Understanding karma can give us a powerful sense of hope and freedom. It is a liberating wisdom that empowers us to take responsibility for our experiences and to consciously shape our future.
The law of karma is a special instance of the law of cause and effect, according to which all our actions of body, speech, and mind are causes and all our experiences are their effects. The law of karma explains why each individual has a unique mental disposition, a unique physical appearance, and unique experiences. These are the various effects of the countless actions that each individual has performed in the past.
