What is Karma?
In How do we transform our lives the contemporary meditation master used Ven. Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, the analogy of sowing in a field, to explain the importance of karma and how it works:
Karma means "action": Actions of our body, our speech, and mind. This topic is very deep […].
every action, we commit, leaves an imprint, or a potential, in our very subtle mind, and each of these coins sometime zeitigt their own impact. Our mind is like a field, and our actions is like sowing seeds in that field. Virtuous actions sow seeds of future happiness and non-virtuous actions sow seeds of future suffering. The seeds remain dormant, occur until the conditions, they ripen and then they produce their effect. In some cases it may be, that this is only many lives, after the original act was committed, happens.
We may not be able to see directly, how our current experience is determined by our past actions or how our present actions determine our future experiences. However, we reflect on such analogies and think deeply about our own actions and experiences as well as the other to, is our belief in karma grow.
The Law of Karma
On Karma often refers to as a "law" in exactly the same way, in which we are referring to gravity as a "law". As Ven. says Geshe Kelsang Gyatso:
The law of karma is a special case of the law of cause and effect. Under this law, all our actions of body, Speech and mind causes and all our experiences are their effects. explains the law of karma, why each one a unique mental disposition, a unique physical appearance and unique experience has. These are the various effects of the countless actions, that every individual has committed in the past. There are no two people, who created the same history of actions exactly in their past lives. Therefore, there are no two people with identical states of mind, identical experiences or identical physical appearance. Everyone has a different individual karma. Some enjoy good health, others are constantly ill. Some people are considered very nice, other than very ugly. Some have a happy disposition and are easily satisfied, others are sullen disposition and look hardly about something. Some find it easy, to understand the meaning of spiritual teachings, others find difficult and puzzling.
We can see, that the understanding of karma helps us, in a positive way, any physical or mental problems, we may experience, to accept. Maybe we have a difficult relationship at work or with our partner, or find it difficult, to fulfill our needs and desires. These difficulties are often painful and can cause, that we are depressed or angry and bitter, which then leads to even more problems for ourselves and others; it will be because we know a proper method, to fully understand, why these things happen to us. Instead of standing in a state of conflict with everything and everyone around us to live, helps us understanding of karma here, to develop the wisdom, to change our situation in a positive way and to gain the inner strength, the things, we can not change, anzunenmen with a positive attitude; and this in turn will help us to, to have a more peaceful and happier life.

- performing positive actions, such as the ten virtuous actions and the six perfections: Give, moral discipline, endeavor, Concentration and wisdom, which will lead to happiness for ourselves and others, both now and in the future;
- Patient no matter what happens to accept, without thinking, that things should be different, as such they are;
- In other to be more tolerant and to empathize with them, to develop and love and compassion for them;
- to purify our mind from the negative imprints actions, before they ripen as suffering;
to promote these views and intentions in our daily lives, will purify our actions and our mind. As our state of mind determines our experiences, we will eventually experience a pure world, in which it no harm, is no conflict or disaster, and where there is only peace, is joy and lasting happiness.
